The Scrumpers at the Magnox Oldbury orchard, saturday 9th Oct 2010

A big thank you to everybody who came to our Picking day in Oldbury today. It was fantastic fun, we picked a ton of quality cider apples, enjoyed wonderful hospitality from the team from Magnox. A big thanks for the delicious bacon rolls, the yummy cookies and cakes, the very welcome coffee and refreshments for the kids. Also thanks to Mr Fruit for bringing his apple press to the orchard and for enlightening us with his endless apple knowledge.

Also thanks to the team at Grimsbury Farm, a brilliant and well oiled machine that are always full of enthusiasm and ideas. The Scrumping Project wouldn’t happen without them.

Spreaking of which the Srumping Project moves onto Grimsbury Farm, Warmley, next sunday for the Pressing day, organized by the Friends of Grimsbury Farm. This event will be even bigger and better with up to four presses on the go, making apple juice and cider. There will also be story telling, childrens games, a bookstalls, food and music. You can even walk around the farm and meet the animals while you are there.

So come along and turn our huge mountain of apples into delicious cider and Apple Juice.

PS, I actually spent 5 hours at the orchard today and didn’t pick 1 apple. To you all I apologize – on the bright side we should have an amazing video of the project !

  1. We had a thoroughly enjoyable day! Thanks so much for organising it, our children loved it and we’ll be looking out for more of your events. We’ve also just been to the apple pressing day at Grimsbury Farm, we loved the apple pressing, the music and making apple men in particular! Thanks 🙂
